D575 Transect PB21 Dense Lophelia reefs on steep slope with various species of Antipathes. Priority. Features: SAC, Mound. Water depth: -850 m. TL: 1.7 km SOL: 12° 34.505' W 52° 12.907' N

Highlights: Lophelia & antipatharian coral - Antipathes Sailfin rough shark Lophelia & antipatharian coral - Antipathes Dense Lophelia & yellow sea fan

Muddy sediment on a flat to gently sloping gradient on which echinoids dominate. Species present include Cidaris cidaris, Kophobelemnon stelliferum and Caryophyllia sp. Areas of dense reef comprising of both Lophelia pertusa and Madrepora oculata occur. At the mound summit in particular this reef is dense and well established.

START VIDEO [00:00:00]/07:56. [1] Mud flat/gentle slope. Sea urchin OTU1119 dominates. Present species include Cidaris cidaris OTU211 and Kophobelemnon stelliferum OTU442. ROV stops for sampling 2 pushcores. Here shoal of fish swims in front of the ROV in a tornado-shape (unknown species). [00:58:00] [2] Mud/pebble/cobbles on steep hill. Cf. Psolus sp. OTU1049 is dominant on cobbles. [01:13:00] [3] Lophelia pertusa reef/framework on steep slope. Mostly dead. Leiopathes sp OTU305 dominates. [01:38:00] [4] Dense L. pertusa/M. oculata reef. Caryophyllia sp OTU6 frequently encountered in this part of the transect. [01:40:00] ROV reaches the mound summit. [5] Here coral reef is dense and well established. ROV moves slowly, possibly for imagery of L. pertusa reef. [01:53:00] ROV approaches to descend the hill on the other side. [6] Here coral reef still present. Leiopathes sp. OTU305 dominate.
