D477 Transect 47 Rippled sand/mud, holes/burrows, lamellate fleshy sponges and barnacles on sparse pebbles, some Acanella. Features: Unknown Water Depth: 1692-1575 m

Highlights: Sponge - Hyalonema ? Octocoral - Umbellula

The substrate is largely soft, bioturbated sediment; where stones and rocks are present small white sponges occur. An area of rippled sand is present for 500 m midway along the transect. The bamboo coral Acanella sp., asteroids, echinoids and grenadiers are the most common species recorded here.

START VIDEO [00:00:00]/04:51 [1] The majority of the transect is on slightly rippled (sandy) mud with sparse/patchy cobbles colonised by barnacles and fleshy lamellate sponges (OTU1132), Ophiomusa lymani is also present but not dominant. The area also has varying densities of burrows made by an unknown fauna, likely crustacean. [00:02:00] start moving. [00:10:00]-[00:12:00] focused outside of the light pool so poor views. [00:15:00]-[00:22:00] then [00:27:00]-[00:33:00], stopped to sample fleshy lamellate sponges. [00:55:28]-[01:03:00] stopped to sample Umbellula sp. [01:05:00] more steeply uphill. [01:21:00] [2] start heading down hill, few pebbles, area dominated by rippled or lightly rippled mud with burrows, Acanella arbuscula and Zoroaster fulgens (slender morph). [01:26:00] turn to left and head uphill. [01:27:00]-[01:28:00] stopped. [01:58:00] stopped for two pushcores before END VIDEO [02:09:00]/07:01
