D668 Transect 15 Mosaic biotope with predominantly pebble/cobble and mud sediments on moderate slope hosting scattered aggregations of encrusted fauna. Included patches of coral rubble/gravel. P1. Water depth: 901m. Feature: Within SAC
Highlights: Octopus Crab - Paromola cuvieri Barnacles Anemone - Phelliactis Crab - Paromola cuvieri
There is soft sediment interspersed with rocks and an area of coral rubble with large drop stones colonised by barnacles and cup corals. Numerous stylastrid hydroids and holothurians encountered as were encrusting sponges. The holothurian Psolus sp. noted on cobbles and boulders. On soft ground echinoids species including Cidaris cidaris are numerous. The decapod Paramola cuvieri and an octopus are also observed.
START VIDEO [00:00:00]/01:46. Mosaic biotope with predominantly pebble/cobble and mud sediments on moderate slope hosting scattered aggregations of encrusted fauna. Included patches of coral rubble/gravel. [1] [00:01:00] ROV stops for sampling one pushcore. [00:07:00] rubbish. [00:08:00] ROV stops for collection of glass bottle. [00:36:00] ROV stops imagery of Muusoctopus johnsonianus. [00:46:00] [2] Coral rubble and coral gravel with sparse pebbles occur in dense patches hosting sparse colonies of Lophelia pertusa. [00:52:00] [3] coral rubble and pebbles continue to dominate. Pebbles are more abundant than the previous biotope . [01:02:00] [4] ROV stop for imagery of geogenic reef on large boulder hosting Cirripedia sp. 1 and encrusted fauna, mainly encrusting sponges and cf. Psolus sp. . [01:07:00] [5] Now, ROV continues its dive on gentle/moderate slope with pebble/cobble with scattered aggregations of cidarid urchins and encrusted fauna on cobbles. [01:35:00] [6] Here, biotope changes slightly, which comprises pebble/cobble fields intersperse with sand patches. [01:41:00] ceramic plate. ROV stops for collecting ceramic pot. [01:59:00] ROV stops for sampling a rock. END VIDEO [02:01:00]/03:40.
