D648 Transect 37 Mainly mud veneered wall and rippled sand sediment on downward slope with mix sparse and scarce epifauna as well as frequent burrows and Foraminifera. P1. Water Depth: 2924m. Feature: Slope with occasional terraces and cliffs

Highlights: Radicipes cf. gracilis Telecommunications cable?

Seafloor is of soft sediment on a steep slope with occasional terraces and cliffs. Conspicuous fauna is sparse and includes small tubes, foraminiferans, occasional ophiuroids and echinoids. Burrows are also noted. Further upslope the sea pen Distichoptilum is common along with the soft coral Anthomastus. Burrows are present, with some containing galatheid crabs.

START VIDEO [00:00:00]/12:54. Mainly mud veneered wall and rippled sand sediment on downward slope with mix sparse and scarce epifauna as well as frequent burrows and foraminifera. [1] Dive starts on very steep/vertical wall with mud veneered. Sparse epifauna. Mainly foraminifera and polychaetes in mud. At times, animal tracks observed. [00:28:00] The ROV hovers on the ground/edge of the cliff for imagery. [00:37:00] Mud/rippled sand sediment on steep downward slope. [00:39:00] Inclined slope, ROV moves upwards. Still sparse and scarce epifauna. Burrows often encountered. [01:25:00] [2] Scattered Radicipes sp. recorded. [01:36:00] [3] Here no dominant species is observed. Biotope is still mud with sparse epifauna encountered. Long telecommunication cable encountered lying on the sea bed. [01:46:00]. The ROV ready to leave the seafloor to avoid entanglement with the cable. END VIDEO [01:51:00]/00:45.
