D570 Transect PB29 Gentle slope with mud/pebble/boulders hosting sparse epifauna including anemones. Fish Micromesistius poutassou is particularly abundant. Priority 1. Features: Mounds, NPWS selected. Water depth: -330 m. TL: 8 km SOL: 14° 29.559' W 51° 59.936' N

Highlights: Anemone - Phelliactis Spectacular shoal of blue whiting Blue whiting & Phelliactis anemone

An upslope of muddy sediment with occasional cobbles and boulder. Large boulders host the anemone Phelliactis sp., the asteroid Porania pulvillus and the holothurian Parastichopus tremulus. A large shoal of Blue whiting is encounter towards the end of the dive.

START VIDEO [00:00:00]/06:14. Mud cloud/vision obscured throughout the whole transect. Muddy gentle upslope. [00:04:00] Occasional pebbles/cobbles/boulders with sparse epifauna. [00:05:00] Now large boulder/bedrock showing one side of the rock with many anemones (poss Pachycerianthus multiplicatus). Here dead coral structure at the bottom of the bedrock. [00:06:00] Fish Micromesistius poutassou OTU439 spotted frequently. [00:06:00] Cobbles/boulder fields. Sparse epifauna, mainly P. multiplicatus. [00:11:00] Here down slope dominated by bedrock and mud sediment with sparse epifauna. [00:17:00] Mud cloud/vision obscured. [00:19:00] ROV stops to sample two pushcores. [00:26:00] Now gentle/moderate upslope. Predominantly muddy sediment. [00:30:00] A shoal of M. poutassou swimming near the bottom. Still mud upslope. [00:59:00] Mud cloud/vision obscured. [01:08:00] Vision back to normal. [01:13:00] cobble/boulder fields. [01:16:00] Now muddy again. M. poutassou are still abundant. [01:21:00] Mud interspersed with pebble/cobble fields. [01:36:00] Massive aggregation of coral structure. [01:39:00] Cobble/boulder host Phelliactis sp. OTU255. [01:42:00] A shoal of M. poutassou still present. VIDEO ENDS AT [01:42:48]/07:57.
